Calallen 27 Flour Bluff 21 OT
It was probably the most exciting game of the night. Calallen raced out to an early lead of 21-14 and it looked like the Cats were going to roll. After Calallen failed to score in the 2nd Half, the Hornets tied the game with :06 seconds left in the game. They went to overtime where the Cats won it on the first possession. Tyler Denman picked up a fumble and rumbled 100 yards for the victory. Calallen is now 7-1 overall and 3-0 in district play, while Flour Bluff fell to 2-5 overall and are 0-3 in district.
In other district games, Tuloso-Midway beat HM King from Kingsville in a romp, winning the game 48-14. In battle of Corpus Christi schools, Ray race past Moody 52-21. Alice won in a non-district play 21-20 over Monterrey Tech.
District 30 4A
There was a big surprise in the game between Port Lavaca Calhoun and Gregory Portland. The Wildcats were undefeated and thought to be the best team in this district. Calhoun coming off a humilating loss to Victoria East last week and looked like no match for GP. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, but the Sandcrabs scored 19 unanswered points. GP answered back with a td of their own and it was 19-17. In the 3rd, Calhoun scored two td’s and were winning 33-17. GP battled back to score twice, but couldn’t catch the Sandcrabs. They lost 33-30. Calhoun is now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in district play, while GP fell to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in district.
In other games, Victoria East won easily over Beeville 35-7. The game was tied at 7, then the Beast rolled 28 points and won the game in a romp. Victoria West also routed Floresville 49-27 and are undefeated in league play. The Warriors have played the weakest teams in the district and will be challenged the rest of the year.
