Several media reports are reporting Dallas Head Football Coach Wade Phillips has been fired from his post and he will be replaced by Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett.
ESPN and some local newspapers reported on their websites Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones made that decision today and will relieve the beleagured coach of his duties.
There had been anticipation for this year’s team after the Cowboys won their first playoff game in more than a decade last year. With the Super Bowl in Dallas this year at Cowboys Stadium, the team was talked about a title contender.
Pre-season injuries and problems on the offensive line hurt the team. After eight games, the team was 1-7. Many critics wondered how long Phillips could last, considering the expectations of this team.
The Cowboys were embarrassed last night on national tv 45-7 to the Green Bay Packers. Commentators even were talking on the air this was the last straw for Phillips.
Possible replacements for Phillips, include ESPN commentator Jon Gruden and CBS Commentator Bill Cowher. Garrett, who will replace Phillips on an interim basis, has always been thought of highly by Jones and could get the job, too.
