Legendary Gregory Portland Coach Retires

PORTLAND–Legendary Football Coach George Harris has announced his retirement from Gregory Portland High School.

Harris led the Wildcats to a 9-3 record this year and his team was knocked out of the playoffs nearly two weeks ago by Calallen.

Harris coached at GP during two stints. During the last nine years, his record was 89-31, including 8 playoff appearances, and a trip to the state semifinals in 2002.

He also coached at Refugio High School from 1992-2001 (106-17-1) and won 8 district championships.

Prior to his stint at Refugio, he was the defensive coorinator under another legendary coach Ray Akins at GP. He coached there for 22 years before leaving for Refugio.
