ORANGE GROVE–A Marine from Orange Grove was killed Sunday in the Afghanistan War.
Colton Rusk, 20, who was a star football player at Orange Grove High School, was shot and killed in the warzone.
Officials from the Marines brought the bad news to the Rusk family on Monday morning. The mother and father weren’t available to speak about the death of their son. About 100 friends and family came to the family’s home to pay their respects.
Rusk graduated from Orange Grove High School in 2009. He joined the Marines right after graduation and was a bomb dog handler. He wasn’t afraid of dying and knew he might pay the ultimate price in the Afghan War.
The small town of Orange Grove is in shock over Rusk’s death. They were counselors on hand at the high school for students. Funeral arrangements are pending for Rusk and there is no timeline when the body of Rusk will return back to the Coastal Bend.
