Bank Robbery Suspect from Brownsville Gets Arrested

BROWNSVILLE–A tip led Brownsville Police to the man wanted in connection with a bank robbery that happened on Monday morning.

Police arrested Martin Antonio Montoya, 22, after he was seen at a local motel in Brownsville.

Once in custody, Montoya gave a statement saying he was involved with the robbery at the Bank of America on Boca Chica Blvd. and he was booked on one count of aggravated robbery.

Police officers said the man entered the Bank of America around 9:30 on Monday morning, handed a note demanding the money to the teller. Witnesses said he never showed a weapon and nobody was injured in the bank robbery.

The bank robbery suspect walked out the door and got into a getaway car, believed to have been driven by a second suspect. It’s described as a vehicle similar to a Gray Grand Prix Older Model.

Police aren’t releasing any details if there is a second suspect or if they recovered the money taken in the bank robbery.

Montoya will be arraigned on Wednesday morning.
