SAN DIEGO, TX–A San Diego man and his wife are under arrest for capital murder in the child abuse death of a young child and being held at the Duval County Jail at this hour.
David Sanchez and Melissa Flores, who are the father and mother, have been charged in the death of Davynna Sanchez, who was 2-year-old.
Authorities were called to the home Friday morning when it was reported she fell off of her bed and suffered an injury. She was taken to the Spohn Hospital in Alice and died there around 9:30 am.
“There were signs of abuse and neglect on the child’s body,” said Sgt. Alan Gonzalez of the San Diego Police Department. “That’s all I am going to say for now and an autopsy will be conducted by the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
Sources said it’s one of the worst cases of child abuse ever seen in the area. They said she was missing chunks of hair and had bruises and cuts from head to toe of her body.
Authorities said the child had bruises and cuts on her body. She wasn’t taken care of properly at her home on the 400 block of North Street in northern part of San Diego or given proper medical attention.
The investigation is being conducted by the San Diego Police Department along with the assistance of the Texas Ranger.
