CBP Agents Find $55,000 Worth of Marijuana at Gateway Int’l Bridge

CBP Agents Seized 55 Pounds of Marijuana

BROWNSVILLE–A Matamoros man gets arrested after he’s caught with 55 pounds of marijuana worth about $55,000 at Gateway International Bridge last week.

Customs and Border Protection Agents were working at Gateway International Bridge last Thursday when they stopped a 21-year-old driver from Matamoros.

He was sent over a for a secondary inspection and agents discovered 25 packages with marijuana hidden inside the 1994 Dodge Caravan. It weighed out to 55.6 pounds of the drugs.

“Our CBP officers’ vigilance was instrumental to the detection of this load of marijuana and preventing these dangerous narcotics from reaching the streets of our county,” said Michael Freeman, who is the CBP Port Director in Brownsville.  

The man from Matamoros was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for prosecution. Authorities seized his vehicle and marijuana found inside the car.
