MCALLEN–Border Patrol Agents found more than 1,600 pounds of marijuana worth more than $1.3 million in two different incidents around the Upper Rio Grande Valley area on Tuesday.
In the first case, agents saw some people loading marijuana into a bed of a Chevy truck near the Rio Grande in Starr County. When they tried to catch them, the men took off and escaped in a boat.
Agents found 135 bundles of marijuana in the bed of the truck and on the ground in the area.
The second case happened in La Grulla where agents discovered more than 400 pounds of marijuana in the back of a Pontiac Grand Am.
Agents said they saw several people leave the vehicle when they started to come towards the vehicle while on patrol in a marked vehicle.
The drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
