CORPUS CHRISTI–The search for the new city manager in Corpus Christi is expected to intensify as 53 people, including a handful of people from the Rio Grande Valley and the Coastal Bend, have applied for the position.
A public search showed candidates from all over the nation want to be the next city manager after Angel Escobar announced he was retiring.
Those candidates from the Rio Grande Valley and Coastal Bend include:
Kandi Hubert, the former Aransas Pass City Manager. Press reports said she was fired by council leaders in May of 2009 after serving six months on the job.
Craig Lonon, the former Harlingen City Manager. Press reports said he was fired in December of 2009 from his post by the city leaders in Harlingen.
Arturo Prida, the current Rio Hondo City Manager
Margie Rose, Corpus Christi Assistant City Manager
William Uhlarik, the current Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District Director of Community Health Services
Robert Bradshaw, Port Aransas City Manager– He withdrew his application.
The search firm to find a replacement for Escobar stopped taking applications on December 13. There is no timeline on when they will present a list of finalists to the Corpus Christi City Council.
