South Texas Crime/Court News

CORPUS CHRISTI–Corpus Christi Police investigators are looking into an attempted murder/suicide case in which an elderly man killed himself, but failed in shooting his spouse.

Officers came to the 300 block of Claremore Street for shots fired around 7:30 am.

They found a 68-year-old man dead from a self-inflicted wound. They also  said his 52-year-old wife was shot, but the bullet grazed her head and shoulder. She was taken to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The couple’s two children, ages 18 and 14, were at home at the time of the shooting, but weren’t injured in the shooting.

Investigators are trying to figure why the man, whose name they aren’t releasing, did this.

An officer was lucky to escape injury when a motorist hit his police car around 7 am this morning at the Crosstown Expressway and I-37 northbound interchange.

The 58-year-old driver didn’t see the police car and hit the back of the car. The motorist was given a ticket for failure to control speed.

The officer was working a traffic accident and wasn’t inside the car, avoiding injury. The police cruiser sustained minor damage.

A 23-year-old man is arrested for three burglaries after he gets in trouble for taking a car without the owner’s permission.

Emmanuel Longoria was arrested on a warrant of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on Tuesday.

After arresting him, officers found out he was involved with three burglaries. They said Longoria took an air conditioning unit and a refrigerator from the La Plaza Motel. He also confesses to a home burglary in which he took a laptop, a WII game system and some games.

A judge arraigned Longoria on Wednesday and his bond was set at $30,000.
