Brownsville Police Update

BROWNSVILLE–Brownsville Police had a busy Thursday in which three men were arrested on a child sex case, firearms smuggling and impersonating a police officer.

Police report an outcry by a 6-year-old child  was made and Luis Castaneda, 42, was arrested for aggravated sexual assault, indecency with a child and continuous sexual abuse of a young child.

The child told his mother about Castaneda, according to police, so she reported him. It’s believed he has been abusing the child for two months. A judge arraigned him and set his bond at $225,000.

Officers also received a tip from Crimestoppers about suspicious activity in Brownsville. They raided the location and seized weapons, ammunition and high-capacity magazines.

Fernando Gonzalez was arrested and charged with firearms smuggling. His bond was set at $10,000.

A 20-year old man was arrested for impersonating a police officer after getting reports an unmarked vehicle with lights and sirens was pulling people over on Thursday afternoon.

A lookout was put for the car and they caught Jorge Zuniga trying to pose as a police officer. He was arrested and his bond was set at $5,000.
