Homeless Man Attacked for Telling Police About Copper Theft

CORPUS CHRISTI–A homeless man reported he was attacked by a 55-year-old man last Friday morning, then the homeless suspect tried to set him on fire because he got him in trouble with police.

David Ramos, 52, said he was asleep on a bus bench on the 4700 block of Leopard when Robert Zander came up to him and went through his pockets. After that, Ramos said he lit his coat on fire.

Police believe Zander attacked Ramos because he had given information to investigators about Zander being involved with some possible copper thefts in the area.

Zander was arrested for aggravated assault, arson, retaliation, failure to identify from justice and a probation violation.
