El Paso Capital Murder Suspect Turned Over to Authorities

Santiago De Leon turned over to CBP officials in Hidalgo

HIDALGO–A man wanted for a capital murder case in El Paso was turned over to CBP Officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge  on New Year’s Day after he was captured in Reynosa.

Santiago De Leon, 21, and two others are accused of trying to rob a strip club in the El Paso area on Thanksgiving Day.

El Paso authorities report  De Leon, Louis Capano, 26, and Fidencio Valdez, 31, walked into a club wearing black ski masks, black clothing and gloves. They said the men were armed with handguns.

As they tried to rob the place, a California man charged the men with a bar stool and was fatally shot.

Capano and Valdez were in the El Paso County Jail being held on a $1 million bond. Both are believed to be gang members.

Valdez was incarcerated for a murder on December 10, while Capano was involved with an aggravated assault of a man on December 26.

De Leon was turned over to Rio Grande Valley officials  and sits in the Hidalgo County Jail. Prosecutors are now working on the paper work to get him extradited him back to El Paso so he can face the capital murder charges.
