RIO GRANDE CITY–Border Patrol Agents found two loaded AK-47’s assault rifles hidden in a grassy area along the river near Rio Grande City.
Agents got a call about some activity in the area on Tuesday when they found the dangerous weapons. Each AK 47 was had one round of ammunition loaded in the rifle and 29 additional rounds in the magazine.
Border Patrol leaders said it shows what they are up against when fighting the war on drugs on the border.
“These deadly weapons had the potential to cause serious harm to the residents of this community,” said Chief Patrol Agent Rosendo Hinojosa.
The weapons and ammunition were turned over to ICE.
