EDINBURG–Border Patrol Agents in the Upper Rio Grande Valley report they seized nearly 3,200 pounds of marijuana in several seizures on Thursday worth more than $2.5 million.
Agents heard about smugglers working in an area in Mission. When they started searching through the brush, agents found 24 bundles of marijuana weighing more than 2,000 pounds and it was worth $1.6 million.
While looking around the brush, they caught one man, who is believed to be one of the drug smugglers, trying to leave the area.
In Starr County, agents found more than 1,000 pounds in multiple seizures on Thursday.
The largest seizure was about 500 pounds when they saw some men walking with large bundles on their backs near Escobares north of the Rio Grande.
When they approached the men, the drug smugglers dropped the marijuana and ran into the brush. They were never found, but the drugs were seized.
