MCALLEN–Border Patrol Agents working in McAllen find two high-powered weapons near the river last Saturday, but the suspects in possession of the guns get away.
Agents said they found a 7.62 assault rifle and .38 caliber revolver near the Rio Grande.
The weapons were found inside a black bag while Border Patrol was patrolling around the river. Inside the bag, they also found a 30 round magazine for the assault rifle.
When they approached the suspects, they swam across the river back into Mexico.
The rifle was reported stolen in December and turned over to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department.
