EDINBURG–Border Patrol Agents made two big drug seizures estimated at more than a ton of marijuana in the Upper Rio Grande Valley and worth $1.6 million on Monday.
The largest seizure happened when agents saw a green minivan parked a little west of the main entrance to Anzalduas Park. When the agents came up to the van, they could hear people talking in the nearby brush. Before they could catch them, the seven people were seen crossing into Mexico.
Agents searched the area and found more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana in the brush.
There was another big seizure occurred near La Rosita in Starr County when agents saw several people carrying large bundles of marijuana north from the Rio Grande.
When the group of smugglers saw the agents, they dropped their bundles and fled into the thick brush. The agents found more than 850 pounds of marijuana in the area.
The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
