KINGSVILLE–Border Patrol Agents arrested an illegal immigrant Thursday, who has an outstanding warrant for sexual assault in Massachusetts.
The man was part of a group of 28 illegal immigrants who were apprehended by agents in the brush near Falfurrias, Texas, while attempting to bypass the Sarita Checkpoint.
The group was transported to the Kingsville Border Patrol Station for processing. During a records check, agents discovered the man, who was from El Salvador, was wanted on a sexual assault charge out of the Fitchburg Police Department in Fitchburg, Mass.
The man was processed for illegal entry and turned over to the Kenedy County Sheriff’s Department pending extradition to Fitchburg for the outstanding warrant.
“While apprehending a person wanted on a sexual assault charge isn’t something agents typically do, we are an agency that protects our nation and communities from all threats, whether it is terrorists, drug smugglers or other criminals,” Chief Border Patrol Agent Rosendo Hinojosa said. “Thanks to the hard work of these agents, this man will be returned to Massachusetts to face the charges against him.”
