LA PALOMA–Border Patrol Agents caught a big load of drugs last Thursday in the San Benito area and they said smugglers were using ladders to get around the border fence.
Surveillance cameras captured about ten people tossing more than 600 pounds of marijuana over the fence in the Rancho Grande neighborhood.
Some local neighbors saw the smugglers transporting the drugs.
“I am not surprised, said Mario Guzman, a La Paloma resident. “They used two ladders. One on the other and second one on the U.S. Side. Then they have a truck there and they put the drugs on the truck.”
Residents said it has been going on over the last couple of months.
“For two to three months they have been smuggling drugs that way,” said Guzman. “Sometimes, they pass it through the fence and other times using the ladder.”
Agents caught two people, while eight got away by running back into Mexico. Mauro Beltran-Guevara and Angel Serrato-Garza were arrested and they are now facing federal drug trafficking charges.
