EDINBURG–Border Patrol Agents seized more than 7,800 pounds of marijuana over a two-day period in the Rio Grande Valley.
The largest seizure occurred Thursday morning in the Rio Grande City area when agents responded to a call of illegal activity near the Rio Grande around the Fronton area.
When they arrived, agents found an abandoned red truck that had hit a stop sign. Inside the truck, they discovered 1,200 pounds of marijuana worth nearly $1 million.
Later that evening, agents saw a man driving a white Monte Carlo around Penitas near the river. The driver notice the Border Patrol and tried to get away. He crashed his vehicle and still tried to get away, but was caught.
Inside the car, they found more than 450 pounds of marijuana worth more than $360,000.
Overall, the agents seized nearly four tones of marijuana in two days and it’s worth about $6.2 million. It was turned over to various law enforcement agencies for further investigation.
