Officials Issue Warning About Travelling to Mexico

BROWNSVILLE–Texas state leaders have issued a travel warning for Spring Breakers advising them not to go to Mexico.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials issued a direct warning.

“Avoid traveling to Mexico during Spring Break and stay alive,” said DPS Director Steve McCraw.

McCraw cites the worsening drug violence and mayhem occurring not only in the northern states, but throughout the country.

The State Department has a similar warning, though it’s not as direct. It says security all over Mexico poses a risk to students and tourists.

It states for spring breakers to practice situational awareness, common sense and phone home to keep family updated on your whereabouts.

These warnings are supposed to have an impact on U.S. Spring Break sites. South Padre Island is considered one of the top destinations and tourist officials are hoping to see a bigger crowd this year than in year’s past.
