HIDALGO–U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized approximately 4.7 pounds of brown heroin worth nearly $400,000 Monday afternoon at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge.
CBP officers stopped a northbound taxicab passenger on Monday afternoon. The sole traveler was identified as a 42-year-old man from Houston. A CBP officer referred the traveler and taxicab to secondary for further inspection.
While in secondary, officers found 11 packages of brown heroin inside five laptop bags in the trunk of the taxi. It’s street value is worth about $380,000.
CBP officers transferred the traveler to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security (ICE-HSI) for further investigation.
“The discovery of brown heroin in laptop bags is quite unique and shows the determination of CBP officers at the Hidalgo Port of Entry to keep our border safe by seizing these hard narcotics,” said Hector A. Mancha, CBP Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr. “I commend our frontline officers for a job well done.”
