ALICE–A Brooks County man plead guilty for gunning down a man in Premont last August and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Michael Garza, 37, of Falfurrias confessed in a Jim Wells County Court that he shot and killed Jaime Gonzalez.
Witnesses reported Gonzalez walked up to a car in Hidalgo Park at around 2 am on August 19th. It’s believed Garza shot Gonzalez as the two had a dispute over a woman.
The Texas Rangers and local police investigated the murder, which was only the third one in the last two decades in this small town. They arrested Garza a few days later.
As part of the plea agreement, Garza will spend 50 years in prison and he won’t be eligible for parole until after he serves half of his sentence.
