BROWNSVILLE–For the second time in two weeks, some teens have been arrested smuggling immigrants around in the Southmost area of Brownsville.
Alejandro Bautista-Faustino, 17, and a 15-year-old were attempting to smuggle three undocumented immigrants on Calle Milpa Verde Road on Wednesday.
Bautista-Faustino was arrested on three counts of unlawful transport of a person and taken to the Cameron County Jail.
Meanwhile, the other teen was taken to the juvenile justice center in Cameron County.
Court records show the two were trying to smuggle people in from El Salvador and Honduras. Border Patrol agents caught them after a short foot pursuit.
Last week in the same area, 17-year-old Edgar Gutierrez was arrested for trying to smuggle in six undocumented immigrants in the same area.
According to court records, Gutierrez reported he was paid $100 per person to lead them across the border.
Normally, suspects arrested for this crime face federal charges, but because they are under 18, they instead are charged in state court.
