Two Arrested With Large Load of Cocaine in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE–A Crimestoppers tip helped Brownsville Police catch a large load of cocaine that crossed an international bridge Saturday and landed two people in jail for a drug trafficking.

David Battise, 30, of Louisiana and Candy Lynn Baker, 39, of Houston are charged with possession of a controlled substance when police found them with 13 pounds of cocaine.

Police conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet truck at the 700 block of North Expressway shortly after crossing Veterans International Bridge in Brownsville from Matamoros.

A K-9 officer alerted to the engine compartment where police found five bundles of cocaine with a street value of more than $100,000.

The two were arraigned Sunday morning and were each given a $200K bond. They are both being held in the Cameron County Jail.
