CBP Officers Find $500,000 Worth of Meth at Border

HIDALGO–U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized approximately 33.8 pounds of crystal methamphetamine worth more than a half million dollars in street value  Thursday morning at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge

CBP officers stopped a  northbound 2003 Ford Expedition and its driver, a 50-year-old Mexican citizen from Laredo, Texas.  After the initial primary inspection, a CBP officer referred the driver and vehicle to secondary for further inspection.

In secondary, officers seized 14 packages of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of about $507,000 that were found hidden within the vehicle.  CBP officers also seized the Ford Expedition.

The male traveler was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement –Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) for further investigation.
