Cameron County Prosecutor Found Dead in Matamoros

 BROWNSVILLE–A Cameron County prosecutor was found dead in Matamoros and officials said they plan to investigate his death, though they don’t believe foul play was involved.

Armando R. Villalobos, County and District Attorney for Cameron County announces that Assistant District Attorney Arturo Jose Iniguez, 26, of Rancho Viejo, Texas , died this weekend.

“Iniguez’s death is considered an open and on-going investigation, which our office is reviewing,” County and District Attorney Armando R. Villalobos said. “He was a dedicated employee and we are all saddened with this news.”

Villalobos added everybody in his office is taking Iniguez’ death hard.

“Our office has a family atmosphere and his death is a shock to all the staff,” Villalobos said. “Our office and community was fortunate to have Arturo for as long as we did both as a public servant and as a member of the community.”

Iniguez was an Assistant District Attorney for the Cameron County and District Attorney’s Office. Earlier this month, he was promoted to 1st Chair Misdemeanor Attorney. He first joined the District Attorney’s Office in 2007 as a Law Clerk, while attending law school.

Iniguez received his Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College , graduating Cum Laude in 2006. Iniguez received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in December 2009.

Iniguez is survived by his wife Lorena Garza Iniguez and 2-year-old daughter Camila.
