A Matamoros man is recovering today in a Brownsville after he was shot in Mexico and crossed an international bridge to get help.
Around 11 on Sunday night, authorities said Jose Luis Lopez drove through the B & M International Bridge with a gunshot wound to his elbow.
According to a police report, Lopez was involved with a road rage incident in Matamoros. He got off to apologize to the other driver.
Lopez said in the report the other driver then tried to carjack him and they got into a struggle. Eventually, the other person pulled out a gun and shot at him, hitting his elbow.
The report states he was able to get away and drive safely to the bridge. Authorities called paramedics who then took him to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville for treatment.
We called Customs and Border Protection officials about the incident. They refused to comment, but a report was filed with the Brownsville Police Department.
