Off-Duty Officer Stops Shoplifter

CORPUS CHRISTI–An off-duty officer was in the right place at the right time, fought off a criminal and then arrested him.

The officer was shopping when he noticed that the store clerk was attempting to stop an individual from leaving the store with items he had concealed in his jacket. The officer then approached the juvenile  and identified himself as a police officer both verbally and visually, by displaying his badge.

The officer then asked the individual to remove the stolen items from his jacket and wait for police.  The suspect did not like the idea and attempted to assault the officer.

He swung and missed the officer but struck the clerk instead. The Officer attempted to take the individual into custody but the subject began to struggle with him. Eventually, the officer was able to detain the individual until on-duty officers arrived.
