CORPUS CHRISTI–A Corpus Christi man was arrested for copper theft after an employee caught him trying to commit the crime when he arrived.
Officers contacted an AEP employee who reported he was checking their maintenance yard when he observed two legs sticking out of the transformer area.
When he saw the employee, the male ran away into another part of the property. Officers searched the fenced area and arrested Luis Chavez, 33, who was found to be in possession of numerous transformer spades.
Chavez was arrested and charged with Theft a State Jail Felony. The metal valued at $1,700 was returned to AEP.
