HIDALGO–Drug smugglers use a pair of statues of Jesus in an attempt to smuggle a large load of drugs through an Upper Valley International Bridge.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo Port of Entry on Saturday seized marijuana valued at $233,000 during a routine vehicle inspection.
A CBP officer referred a white Pontiac Vibe, which was driven by a 20-year-old McAllen resident to a secondary examination.
While in secondary, CBP officers noticed some problems in two large religious statutes. Inside, they found 73 bundles containing about 233 pounds of marijuana.
CBP officers turned over the driver to federal investigators and they seized the car.
