SAN BENITO–A San Benito area businessman was shot and later died at the hospital Wednesday after there was a dispute involving tires in a small town.
Cameron County Sheriff investigators found Pedro Rodriguez nearly four hours after the murder at a Wal-Mart in San Benito. They report he was getting ready to give himself up when he was found.
Investigators said Rodriguez owed Jose Guadalupe Garza about $10,000 for big rig tires that were sold to him, but he never paid. Garza was accusing Rodriguez of stealing the tires from him.
Reportedly, Rodriguez confronted him about those allegations and shot 11 bullets from a handgun shortly after 4 in the afternoon.
Investigators said Garza was hit twice in the chest by the gunshots and was driven to Harlingen Medical Center. He died around 6:15 from the shooting.
Rodriguez was arraigned Thursday at the Cameron County Jail. He offered up no comment during his brief court appearance. A judge set his bond at $500,000.
