INGLESIDE–A day after announcing he was switching parties, a Coastal Bend State Representative found out a well-known Republican plans to run for his seat and is already doubting his credentials.
J.M. Lozano, who is the State Rep. for District 43 and lives in Kingsville, told supporters Thursday he was joining the GOP after serving one term as a Democrat.
Willie Vaden, the former Ingelside Mayor, said he was going to run against Lozano and Bill Wilson of Portland in what is becoming a hotly contested primary.
District 43 encompasses Kleberg, Live Oak, Bee and San Patricio County when it was redrawn by the federal judges.
Vaden claims he is the only real Conservative running for this seat. He said Lozano can be a Republican in name only. He doesn’t believe Lozano represents the best interest ot the party.
Vaden is known for running against Congressman Solomon Ortiz three times and losing. He’s a big veterans supporter, an entrepreneur and hopes to keep the Coastal Bend going in the right direction with its recent economic growth.
He doesn’t believe the rank and file GOP members will be behind his campaign, but he said that doesn’t bother him and he believes he can win this primary over Lozano and Smith.
