HIDALGO–U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized about seven pounds of heroin worth more than $235,000 at two Upper Rio Grande Valley international bridges last weekend.
CBP officers working at the Pharr/Reynosa International Bridge stopped a beige 2002 Ford Windstar driven by a 34-year-old female from Edinburg.
Officers discovered two packages of a heroin weighing nearly six pounds that was hidden within the vehicle’s engine. CBP seized the heroin, which has an estimated street value of about $180,000 and the vehicle as well.
A day later, an 18-year-old U.S. citizen was found at the pedestrian bridge of the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge with nearly two pounds of heroin strapped to his body.
The teenager was walking through the bridge when he was referred for a secondary inspection. CBP officers found two packages with heroin worth more than $50,000.
